Keel Winch and Cable Update

  I took the time this spring to replace my keel cable and rebuild the keel winch on my Catalina 22

Here is a photo of the new winch cable connected to my pitted keel. Perhaps I will work on the keel this winter.

 

 

Once I remove the section of exhaust hose I discovered my turning ball was severely worn, so it needed replacing also. I ordered all parts from Catalina Direct.

This is the new turning ball and 1/4" stainless steel ping

  

  Since I had the whole thing torn apart, I decided to rebuild the winch. I took the entire assembly apart, remove the rust, painted it black and reassembled it.

Notice two things. 1) I installed a new section of hose. 2) Notice on the right side of the photo a black section. The previous owner did not have installed  inline fuses. This was the beginning and ending of an electrical fire.
