Auxiliary Scupper Installation

Back to "Our Boat"

Jared seemed to be pretty happy with my work.

Last Fall I found these new Harken #8 Aluminum winches for sale on eBay. Later, I found out that Harken was offering a rebate program. I got $70 back from Harken for buying 2 of their winches. Not a bad incentive program and I love their products. I also installed new Harken cam cleats with risers on our Catalina 22. The old ones were shot. The jaws would stick open and my crew had a horrible time cleating the genoa sheets.

See www.harken.com. Their web site has an interface for figuring out the best rigging configurations for your boat.

In this photo you can see the old cam cleat and the new holes I drilled for the Harken winches . The old holes for the Arco winches need to be  filled with either epoxy or polyester resin.

On a rainy day this spring I sewed winch covers for my new winches. I want these babies to last a while. I used Pacific Blue Sunbrella. You can find all the materials, and a free set of instructions at Sailrite.  Sailrite also has kits for sewing your own sails and many other projects. I found Marine Textiles to have the best prices on Sunbrella fabric.
