Hull Signs

Back to "Our Boat"

An easy way to put a cool name and state ID numbers on your hull is to have a graphic artist create them with vinyl lettering. Those black block letters are so passé'.

I went to local sign shop and for $32 they made me 2 Indiana state identification labels and made 2 large "Time Out" names for our boat. I thought the price was very reasonable.

This animation shows you how easy they are to put on.  The nice thing about the labels is that you do not have to arrange the individual letters. The backing and facing paper holds the letters in place.

Steps:

  1. Clean hull with solvent to remove wax, grease, grim or dirt. In my case, sailing in Indiana lakes, remove sledge!

  2. measure and mark the location of the label. Stand back and visual the location.

  3. Use masking tape (blue) to hold the label in place. Stand and visualize location and straightness.

  4. Peel off backing. Don't let the letters stick to the hull yet.

  5. Gently smooth letters out on hull. Start at one corner and work your way across the label. Go back and rub again increasing pressure.

  6. Gently peel off facing.

  7. Go sailing!
